Joy in Mysterious Music 2018

Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall

17 Oct 2018, Wednesday
8:00pm

A religious ritual in which musical traits from many Chinese regions can be found, Taoist music is closely tied to folk music. Having shared a long history with Taoist Culture, it is often perceived as a classic, elegant ritual where religion meets art.

Quanzhen Temples Taoist Ritual Music has been taught and practiced in Hong Kong for decades, iconically by Fung Ying Seen Koon – Hong Kong Orchestra. As it was passed down through generations, some local musical features have been embedded in Taoist Ritual Music. Keen ears may even spot influences from Cantonese opera and Guangdong ballads.
For the fourth collaboration between Hong Kong Culture Festival and the Orchestra, the performance will bring you from China to Hong Kong, from North to South, reinventing the musical and literary classics.
