A bridge between East and West, Hong Kong has been striving to promote global cultural exchanges. This year, HKCF presents the Hong Kong debut of Rootless Root, a Greek-Slovak dance duo. Entitled “Europium”, the contemporary piece is a journey through the origins of Western culture. Dancers explore their identity and physical limits in an improvisational performance. As opposed to a rigid, if not dull, choreographic representation, the spontaneous movements of Rootless Root is an eloquent expression of the unpredictable reality. Europium delves into the Aegean and Mediterranean region to trace the origins of European culture, thereby reflects on the impacts modernisation has on cultural roots of a place and their protection and continuation.

Rootless Root added a lot of martial arts into their dance performance, especially their own dance, Fighting Monkey, and integrated with the elements of Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Martial Arts Project, such as kung fu practice form, moving, body movement.
