Recognized as a movie hub in Asia, Hong Kong has earned itself a place in movie production since the 1960s. Over the past 5 decades, Hong Kong production continued to leave its marks on the international cinema history, not only defining how the world perceives Asia particularly Hong Kong and mainland China, it also brought changes to movie making. As a result, many Hong Kong producers, directors and artists received worldwide acclaim, and have remained irreplaceable till this day.
Hong Kong cinema has been of utmost importance when it comes to bridging between Chinese cultures and the rest of the world. This year, Hong Kong Classic Films Retrospective will feature iconic, exemplary films that will showcase these cultural exchanges. A series of programmes including screenings, sharing sessions, lectures, exhibitions, workshops and film classes will be provided in hopes of helping the audience to understand more about local movies and cultivate young people’s interest in Hong Kong film culture.
