Co-organised by the institute of Chinese Martial Studies (Hong Kong) and Lionbooks Martial Arts Company (Taiwan), “The New Silk Road of Martial Studies – A Dialogue between Eastern and Western Martial Arts Literature” exhibition was successfully held between 23 – 25 August 2024 at The Red House (Ximen Honglou), Taipei.
It took around one year from preparation to showcasing this exhibition. Co-curated by Mr. Hing Chao and Mr. Liu Kang-yi, the exhibition presented the first time selected historical martial arts and military texts from China and Europe from early modern period, including Mr. Chao’s collection of European treatises and prints, as well as Mr. Liu’s collection of Chinese martial arts books and manuscripts. By featuring not only the most important texts that underlaid martial arts and military developments in China and Europe, but also offer a diachronic lens through which to trace and compare the similarities and divergences that ultimately shaped martial art evolutions in China and the West from the 16th century through to the early 20th century.
This exhibition was very highly considered by scholars and the public and helped improving the academic level of martial arts industry.
